10-year Supernets adoption scenarios
10-year Supernets adoption scenarios

Context

This figure appears in the Economic Model section alongside the public chains growth projection. Supernets are application-specific Polygon chains deployed by enterprises or protocols that require custom execution environments or dedicated blockspace — analogous to app-chains in the Cosmos ecosystem but settling to Ethereum via ZK proofs.

What This Figure Shows

The chart projects active Supernets over time with a different adoption shape than public chains: more lumpy and enterprise-driven rather than organic community proliferation. Each Supernet requires a dedicated validator set drawn from the shared Polygon pool and pays fees to those validators, contributing incrementally to total POL demand. In optimistic scenarios, a large number of enterprise deployments create a long tail of smaller chains that collectively represent significant demand, diversifying validator revenue beyond dependence on a small number of high-volume public chains.

Significance

Supernets represent Polygon's strategy for capturing value from the long tail of blockchain deployments. This figure shows how Polygon 2.0 aims to create a winner-take-most dynamic in the app-chain market by making it dramatically cheaper to launch a secure, Ethereum-settled chain using shared infrastructure than to launch an independent L1.
