Annual treasury inflow under different adoption scenarios
Annual treasury inflow under different adoption scenarios

Context

This figure appears in the economic analysis subsection as the counterpart to the return-on-work figure, completing the two-sided picture of POL emission flows: validator income on one side, community treasury accumulation on the other.

What This Figure Shows

The chart plots projected community treasury balance or annual inflow of POL tokens across growth scenarios, driven by fixed-rate treasury emission and potentially a fraction of protocol fee revenue directed to the treasury as a public goods fee. In all scenarios, the treasury grows monotonically because it receives guaranteed issuance regardless of chain adoption; differences between scenarios arise from whether fee revenue adds an additional contribution. The figure makes visible the compounding nature of treasury accumulation: even a modest annual inflow rate, sustained over many years, results in a substantial governance-controlled reserve.

Significance

The treasury inflow figure is the financial expression of Polygon's commitment to decentralized ecosystem funding. A well-capitalized treasury governed by token holders reduces dependence on centralized foundations for protocol development, which is particularly important as the project matures. In high-adoption scenarios, fee revenue substantially boosts available resources, creating a direct incentive for governance to approve initiatives accelerating chain adoption.
